Moving Registration & Juminhyo: What to Do After Moving in Japan

After moving in Japan, you must submit a moving-in notification (tenyuu-todoke) within 14 days at your new city/ward office.

① Documents Needed

  • Moving-out certificate or Residence Card
  • My Number Card or notice
  • Personal seal
  • ID (Residence Card, Passport)

② Getting a Juminhyo (Residence Certificate)

  • City office: Weekdays 9am-5pm, ~¥300
  • Convenience store: Requires My Number Card, 24hrs, ~¥200

③ When You Need a Juminhyo

  • Opening a bank account
  • Driver's license application
  • Mobile phone contract
  • Rental contract
